Reports: Hand, Padres reach 3-year extension

Closer Brad Hand agreed to a three-year extension with the San Diego Padres on Saturday, according to multiple reports.

The deal, first reported by The Athletic, includes a club option for a fourth season.

The left-handed Hand had 21 saves with a 2.16 ERA and 104 strikeouts in 79 1/3 innings for the Padres during the 2017 season.

Hand and the Padres had agreed to a $ 3.6 million, one-year deal Friday to avoid arbitration, but that had yet to be official and will be replaced by Saturday’s long-term deal.
